Hundreds of women came out yesterday, in protest against the increasing cases of rape in their states and the country as a whole.
In Lagos, protesters stormed the Lagos state governor’s office demanding an end to rape cases in the state and across the country.
The protesters campaigned under the aegis of different civil society organizations, such as the War Against Rape (WAR). They demanded an end to the rape of children and babies.
While in Gombe, hundreds of women wearing black apparels, protested against incessant cases of rape in the state.
In the words of Jemila Sulaiman, Coordinator of an NGO, “Women Situation Room”, their decision to stage the protest was formed by the death of a 14-year-old girl who was a victim of Rape in Anambra.
She said that cases of rape in Gombe and other parts of the country were on the increase without lawful convictions.
